Orange Tofu

Ingredients

  • avocado or olive oil 1 Tbsp
  • brown sugar 1/3 c
  • cornstarch 4 Tbsp
  • extra-firm tofu 2 14 oz blocks
  • garlic cloves 2
  • ginger 1/2 in
  • orange juice 1 c
  • orange zest 1 orange
  • red chili flakes 0.5 Tbsp
  • sesame oil 2 tsp
  • tamari 5 tbsp
  • vinegar 3 Tbsp

Steps

    Preheat the oven to 425 F.

    Cut extra-firm tofu into 1-inch cubes.

    In a medium bowl, toss the tofu with tamari and avocado or olive oil.

    Sprinkle cornstarch over the tofu.

    Toss again in cornstarch to coat evenly.

    Spread the tofu on a parchment-lined sheet pan.

    Bake for 30 minutes, flipping halfway through.

    While the tofu bakes, heat sesame oil in a medium pan over medium heat.

    Add garlic cloves, ginger, and red chili flakes.

    Saute until fragrant.

    Add orange juice, brown sugar, tamari, vinegar, and orange zest.

    Bring to a simmer.

    Cook until the sauce starts to thicken.

    If needed, add cornstarch to thicken further, or a splash of water to thin it out.
